The MVT research group is studying the central unit operations of particle-based processes such as size reduction or separation in multi-scale systems. This expertise includes research ranging from particle micromechanics to macroscopic effects, on a laboratory and then on an industrial scale. In addition to experimental studies, modelling and numerical simulation of these multi-scale phenomena are also being performed.
As part of the PowderReg project, an in-depth analysis of these dispersed media will be carried out in order to gain a better understanding of the flow properties of fine powders and particle systems. This includes the experimental and numerical analysis of arch-building processes in silos and hoppers. The effects on silo emptying from applying controlled vibrations will also be measured.
